Letchworth Garden City Band achieve 4th place at the London and Southern Counties  region 4th Section Brass band contest

This years contest which was held on Saturday 18th March. The band had elected for a late draw which saw the band drawn to play last, after a total 14 other bands had performed,  to what by then was a packed Gordon Craig Theatre. 

 

This year is the first year that the band has attended the contest since 2019, having narrowly missed out on the opportunity to compete in 2020 when the contest was cancelled at the 11th hour due to the Covid 19 Pandemic, which brought a sudden and prolonged halt to all band activities and rehearsals for many months.  

 

Consequently, the band currently has a high number of younger players for whom this was their first experience of playing in a contest.  On the day a total of 14 members of the band made their contest debuts.  The band performed well and gave a good account of the test piece that had been selected for this years contest, which was is Hungerford Town by Darrol Barry, which provided a thorough test for all sections of the band.

The band's Musical Director Tim Welch took to facebook shortly after the result was announced to congratulate the band and everyone involved with the the organisation and preparation for the contest.
